Blood Study: The thyroid stimulating hormone is produced in the pituitary gland and serves to stimulate the production of thyroid hormones. Almost 10% of women over age 35 have thyroid disease. An under active thyroid is a common cause of weight gain, fatigue, and memory problems. The TSH is often helpful in identifying an overactive or under active thyroid state.
